OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 2

I skipped the Week 1 OHT27. Life got in the way and Week 1 is never all that meaningful anyhow. Coming off an Olympic year there was also a glut of available female athletes willing to provide inspiration in this year's polling. In this week's poll, the feature guest is Canada's own Tessa Virtue.

Mount Allison 27 St. F-X 25

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ¶ had the decision reversed.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (2-0, 2-1) beat Alta UBC lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (2-0, 2-0) beat Man Alta
3 Manitoba (1-1, 1-1) beat Reg lost to Sask
4 Regina (1-1, 2-1) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man
5 UBC (0-2, 0-2) lost to Reg Cal
6 Alberta (0-2, 0-3) lost to Reg# Cal Sask

Image Alberta's near upset of Saskatchewan has been the big surprise so far. Alberta was calling Trivago to check out rates for a stay in Jabroniville, and suddenly they darn near beat the Hicksies. Time will tell if this is a sign (for either side) or just a one-off.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (3-0, 3-0) beat Gue Wat* Car
2 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat York* Que
3 Guelph (2-1, 2-2) beat Tor Ott lost to Mtl# McM
4 Ottawa (2-1, 2-1) beat York* Que lost to Gue
5 Queen's (1-2, 1-3) beat Wind¶ lost to Con# Ott WO
6 Windsor (1-1, 1-1) beat Laur lost to Que¶
7 Laurier (2-1, 2-1) beat Tor Wat* lost to Wind
8 Carleton (1-1, 2-1) beat York#* Wat* lost to McM
9 Toronto (1-2, 1-3) beat York* lost to McG# Laur Gue
10 Waterloo (0-3, 0-3) lost to Carl McM Laur
11 York (0-3, 0-4) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor

Image York is an easier opponent than "bye". A win over them is of no significance in the rankings. Maybe they should play a season in junior football to rebuild. And maybe Waterloo should join them. Note that Windsor's reversal win over Queen's does no good for them in the rankings. The OHT27 recognizes ONLY on-the-field results. Tessa insists! She threatened to sever the head of the Chinese judge who questioned this policy. Still, Queen's were hammered by Ottawa who were hammered by Guelph. Looks like a conference rife with ham'n eggers and jabronis.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (2-0, 3-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher
2 Montreal (1-1, 2-1) beat Gue# Bish lost to Lav
3 Concordia (2-0, 3-0) beat Que# Bish McG
4 Mount Allison (2-0, 3-0) beat SFX# Aca SFX
5 Sherbrooke (1-1, 1-1) beat McG lost to Lav
6 Acadia (1-1, 2-1) beat SMU# SMU lost to MtA
7 Bishop's (0-2, 0-2) lost to Con Mtl
8 St. F-X (1-1, 1-2) beat SMU lost to MtA# MtA
9 McGill (0-2, 1-2) beat Tor# lost to Sher Con
10 Saint Mary's (0-2, 0-3) lost to Aca# SFX Aca

Image I am going to go out on a limb and say that Laval may just win the Q this year. The others seem quite capable of major shuffles in coming weeks. Too bad there are not more Q&A games.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

"CONTENDERS"
1 Laval (2-0, 3-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher
2 Calgary (2-0, 2-1) beat Alta UBC lost to Lav#

"ABOVE THE BLOB"
3 Montreal (1-1, 2-1) beat Gue# Bish lost to Lav
4 Saskatchewan (2-0, 2-0) beat Man Alta
5 McMaster (3-0, 3-0) beat Gue Wat* Car
6 W. Ontario (2-0, 2-0) beat York* Que
7 Manitoba (1-1, 1-1) beat Reg lost to Sask

"THE BLOB"
8 Guelph (2-1, 2-2) beat Tor Ott lost to Mtl# McM
9 Concordia (2-0, 3-0) beat Que# Bish McG
10 Mount Allison (2-0, 3-0) beat SFX# Aca SFX
11 Regina (1-1, 2-1) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man
12 Sherbrooke (1-1, 1-1) beat McG lost to Lav
13 Ottawa (2-1, 2-1) beat York* Que lost to Gue
14 UBC (0-2, 0-2) lost to Reg Cal
15 Acadia (1-1, 2-1) beat SMU# SMU lost to MtA
16 Queen's (1-2, 1-3) beat Wind¶ lost to Con# Ott WO
17 Bishop's (0-2, 0-2) lost to Con Mtl
18 Windsor (1-1, 1-1) beat Laur lost to Que¶
19 St. F-X (1-1, 1-2) beat SMU lost to MtA# MtA
20 Laurier (2-1, 2-1) beat Tor Wat* lost to Wind

"THE HAM 'N EGGERS"
21 Alberta (0-2, 0-3) lost to Reg# Cal Sask
22 McGill (0-2, 1-2) beat Tor# lost to Sher Con
23 Carleton (1-1, 2-1) beat York#* Wat* lost to McM
24 Toronto (1-2, 1-3) beat York* lost to McG# Laur Gue
25 Saint Mary's (0-2, 0-3) lost to Aca# SFX Aca

"THE JABRONIS"
26 Waterloo (0-3, 0-3) lost to Carl McM Laur
27 York (0-3, 0-4) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor

Image I sense that this will be a difficult season in which to rank the leading OUA teams, since the bulk of their schedule will be against clowns. (Could Krusty's Klown Kollege beat York?)

NEXT UP

Fri. Sept. 19

Sat. Sept. 20

And until then, so long from Tessa!

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 3

Another week, another OHT27. This week, the special assistant is a curler. Somehow, curlers have become some of the most attractive athletes out there. Just behold Claudia Toth (Fischer), from Austria. Remember when female curlers were mid-40s and had never seen the inside of a gym? Those days are GONE! In fact, a friend of mine told me that Claudia has some pictures on the internet where she forgot to wear clothes.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ¶ had the decision reversed.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (3-0, 3-1) beat Alta UBC Sask lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (2-1, 2-1) beat Man Alta lost to Cal
3 Manitoba (2-1, 2-1) beat Reg UBC lost to Sask

5 Regina (1-2, 2-2) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man Alta
6 UBC (0-3, 0-3) lost to Reg Cal Man

Image The Evil Monkeys finally got a win and, coupled with a hard luck loss to Sask, have people taking them seriously. We'll find out soon if they are practicing hard now or just throwing feces around their cages this week. The "odd score out" is beginning to look like the week 1 game between Bedrock U and the Primates.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (4-0, 4-0) beat Gue Wat* Car York*
2 W. Ontario (3-0, 3-0) beat York* Que Tor
3 Guelph (3-1, 3-2) beat Tor Ott Que lost to Mtl# McM
4 Carleton (2-1, 3-1) beat York#* Wat* Ott lost to McM

8 Laurier (2-1, 2-1) beat Tor Wat* lost to Wind
9 Toronto (1-3, 1-4) beat York* lost to McG# Laur Gue WO
10 Waterloo (0-4, 0-4) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind
11 York (0-4, 0-5) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor McM

Image Cartoon U vaults upward with their big win over UfO. And a warm welcome to Jabroniville's latest tenant, the Toronto Blahs. There is a remendous gulf in the OUA, and there is no evidence that their upper crust is any better now than it was even 3 or 4 years ago. There is a good chance that a ham'n egger will host a quarter-final and that a jabroni (or 2) will qualify for the playoffs. Maybe I will need to make an "A** CLOWN" category for Waterloo and York if they are routinely pounded by jabronis.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (3-0, 4-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher Bish
2 Montreal (2-1, 3-1) beat Gue# Bish McG lost to Lav
3 Concordia (3-0, 4-0) beat Que# Bish McG Sher
4 Mount Allison (3-0, 4-0) beat SFX# Aca SFX SMU

7 Acadia (1-2, 2-2) beat SMU# SMU lost to MtA SFX
8 Bishop's (0-3, 0-3) lost to Con Mtl Lav
9 McGill (0-3, 1-3) beat Tor# lost to Sher Con Mtl
10 Saint Mary's (0-3, 0-4) lost to Aca# SFX Aca MtA

Image St. F-X gets the biggest boost whilst the others stand pat. The Q v A interlock should be very interesting this year. Those games will really impact the rankings. How did the SMUskies get so bad?

STEP 3: THE BLEND

26 Waterloo (0-4, 0-4) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind
27 York (0-4, 0-5) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor McM

Image Where does Cartoon U belong? They lost by 20 to the McUniversity and hard a tough game against a UfO team that lost by a bazillion to Goof U. Hmmm, hard to get a good gauge on these teams.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 4

Last week was a transitional week. The Q&A interlock took place, there was some wild activity in the west (as always), and there were even a few signs of life in the OUA. To sort this all out I needed a special consultant. Somebody with multiple talents. All arrows pointed one way: to Vanessa-Mae Vanakorn, a world renowned classical violin player (where she is known simply as "Vanessa-Mae") who also hit the slopes to represent Thailand in skiing in the Olympics. Now THAT is talent.

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ¶ had the decision reversed.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (4-0, 4-1) beat Alta¶ UBC Sask Man lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (3-1, 3-1) beat Man Alta Reg lost to Cal
3 Manitoba (2-2, 2-2) beat Reg UBC lost to Sask Cal
4 UBC (1-3, 1-3) beat Alta lost to Reg Cal Man
5 Regina (1-3, 2-3) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man Alta Sask
6 Alberta (1-3, 1-4) beat Reg lost to Reg# Cal¶ Sask UBC

Image First up, once again be reminded that an administrative change of a game result does NOT affect the OHT27 rankings. Alberta still does not have a win over Calgary despite the retro forfeiture. UBC, Regina, and Alberta have a circle thing happening and in that UBC gets the nod. At the top, Manitoba's near win over Calgary could have really confused the conference. And which results most accurately define Sask? They seem to be in danger of a plunge.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (5-0, 5-0) beat Gue Wat* Car York* Que
2 W. Ontario (4-0, 4-0) beat York* Que Tor* Wat*
3 Guelph (3-1, 3-2) beat Tor* Ott Que lost to Mtl# McM
4 Carleton (2-2, 3-2) beat York#* Wat* Ott lost to McM Laur
5 Ottawa (3-2, 3-2) beat York* Que Tor* lost to Gue

7 Windsor (3-1, 3-1) beat Laur Wat* York* lost to Que¶
8 Laurier (3-1, 3-1) beat Tor* Wat* Carl lost to Wind
9 Toronto (1-4, 1-5) beat York* lost to McG# Laur Gue WO Ott
10 Waterloo (0-5, 0-5) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind WO
11 York (0-5, 0-6) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor* McM Wind

Image Laurier's win over Carleton was the first game amongst the mid-ranked OUA teams to not fall into line with the other results amongst that group. Impressive win but they still have lost to Windsor, who lost to Queen's, who lost to Ottawa, who lost to Carleton. So their big win may set the stage for future boost, but for now it just brings these teams closer together. Queen's also gets credit for a non-blowout loss to McMaster. The less said about Toronto, Waterloo, and York, the better.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (4-0, 5-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher Bish McG
2 Montreal (3-1, 4-1) beat Gue# Bish McG SFX lost to Lav
3 Concordia (4-0, 5-0) beat Que# Bish McG Sher SMU

7 Acadia (1-3, 2-3) beat SMU# SMU lost to MtA SFX Sher
8 Bishop's (0-4, 0-4) lost to Con Mtl Lav MtA
9 McGill (0-4, 1-4) beat Tor# lost to Sher Con Mtl Lav
10 Saint Mary's (0-4, 0-5) lost to Aca# SFX Aca MtA Con

Image How the mighty have fallen. The SMUskies are the latest jabronis. The Q&A series shows that the Q is vastly superior this season. I still wish there was one more week to it. It would be nice to see the Mounted take on Concordia and Sherbrooke.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

21 Windsor (3-1, 3-1) beat Laur Wat* York* lost to Que¶
22 Laurier (3-1, 3-1) beat Tor* Wat* Carl lost to Wind

26 Waterloo (0-5, 0-5) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind WO
27 York (0-5, 0-6) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor* McM Wind

Image The big event of the rankings this week is that the SMUskies are now in the basement. Never thought I'd see that. Remember them beating Laval? It is also going to be hard to keep the Mounted in the top 10 if teams like Sherbrooke get it going. They could go 8-0 but given the Q's dominance over the A this year, that still might not be enough. And how did the Urban Cowboys get such a ridiculous schedule? Grading them is like a pre-season poll.

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 5

This was supposed to be uploaded after week 5. I drafted it but since I was sick it stayed on my computer in draft form. Enjoy it belatedly.

This was a week where the OUA showed signs of life, the Monkeys pulled into solid contention, Laval looked beatable, and the SMUskies' fall from grace is apparently entrenched. To assist this week, the OHT27 calls upon another curler, Norwegian Linn Githmark.

McMaster 32 W. Ontario 29
Guelph 24 Windsor 9
Waterloo 10 Ottawa 51

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ¶ had the decision reversed.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (5-0, 5-1) beat Alta¶ UBC Sask Man Reg lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (4-1, 4-1) beat Man Alta Reg UBC lost to Cal
3 Manitoba (2-3, 2-3) beat Reg UBC lost to Sask Cal Alta
4 Alberta (2-3, 2-4) beat Reg Man lost to Reg# Cal¶ Sask UBC
5 UBC (1-4, 1-4) beat Alta lost to Reg Cal Man Sask
6 Regina (1-4, 2-4) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man Alta Sask Cal

Image After a 70-something whipping got turned into a 1-0 win, the Evil Monkeys suddenly believe themselves to be a real team. Sure, they give up a lot of points. But they also score a lot. The CW is one place where anything could happen yet.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (6-0, 6-0) beat Gue Wat* Car York* Que WO
2 W. Ontario (4-1, 4-1) beat York* Que Tor* Wat* lost to McM
3 Guelph (4-1, 4-2) beat Tor* Ott Que Wind lost to Mtl# McM
4 Carleton (3-2, 4-2) beat York#* Wat* Ott Tor* lost to McM Laur
5 Ottawa (4-2, 4-2) beat York* Que Tor* Wat* lost to Gue
6 Queen's (1-4, 1-5) beat Wind¶ lost to Con# Ott WO Gue McM
7 Windsor (3-2, 3-2) beat Laur Wat* York* lost to Que¶ Gue
8 Laurier (4-1, 4-1) beat Tor* Wat* Carl York* lost to Wind
9 Toronto (1-5, 1-6) beat York* lost to McG# Laur Gue WO Ott Carl
10 Waterloo (0-6, 0-6) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind WO Ott
11 York (0-6, 0-7) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor* McM Wind Laur

Image By and large, the scoreboard in the OUA looked like a list of normal football scores. That was nice. However, all results were within the form chart, hence no movement in the rankings. The OHT27 already had McUniversity ahead of the Urban Cowboys so the result just confirmed that which was already there.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (5-0, 6-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher Bish McG Con
2 Concordia (4-1, 5-1) beat Que# Bish McG Sher SMU lost to Lav

Image I still shake my head at the SMUskies. I just cannot get over the season they are having. They need a game against York. Congrats go to Concordia for not being blown out by Laval. I guess this result shows that they are a bona fide playoff team. They move Above the Blob! Now the question is: Can they hold the ranking?

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 6

The home stretch is now firmly upon us. And the OHT27 committee needed somebody who would not skate around the tough decisions. So Finland's figure skater Kiira Korpi was hired! Enjoy our cogent analysis.

Ottawa 29 Windsor 39
Carleton 24 Guelph 44

Bishop's 3 Laval 64

STEP 2: REGIONAL RANKINGS

The rankings show each team's conference record followed by their overall record. The games marked # are non-conference games. The games marked * are games against a jabroni. The games marked ¶ had the decision reversed.

CANADA WEST

1 Calgary (6-0, 6-1) beat Alta¶ UBC Sask Man Reg Alta lost to Lav#
2 Saskatchewan (4-2, 4-2) beat Man Alta Reg UBC lost to Cal Man
3 Manitoba (3-3, 3-3) beat Reg UBC Sask lost to Sask Cal Alta
4 Alberta (2-4, 2-5) beat Reg Man lost to Reg# Cal¶ Sask UBC Cal
5 UBC (2-4, 2-4) beat Alta Reg lost to Reg Cal Man Sask
6 Regina (1-5, 2-5) beat Alta# UBC lost to Man Alta Sask Cal UBC

Image That forfeit win for the Evil Monkeys over Calgary seems to grow in importance every week. UBC will need to beat Calgary on their own if they want a playoff berth. The closeness of most games would lead one to believe that the surprises are not yet over.

ONTARIO

1 McMaster (7-0, 7-0) beat Gue Wat* Car York* Que WO Laur
2 Guelph (6-1, 6-2) beat Tor* Ott Que Wind Carl WO lost to Mtl# McM
3 W. Ontario (5-2, 5-2) beat York* Que Tor* Wat* Laur lost to McM Gue
4 Carleton (4-3, 5-3) beat York#* Wat* Ott Tor* Wind lost to McM Laur Gue 2-1
5 Queen's (3-4, 3-5) beat Wind¶ Tor* York* lost to Con# Ott WO Gue McM 1-1
6 Windsor (4-3, 4-3) beat Laur Wat* York* Ott lost to Que¶ Gue Carl 2-2
7 Laurier (4-3, 4-3) beat Tor* Wat* Carl York* lost to Wind WO McM 1-1
8 Ottawa (4-3, 4-3) beat York* Que Tor* Wat* lost to Gue Carl Wind 1-2
9 Toronto (2-6, 2-7) beat York* Wat* lost to McG# Laur Gue WO Ott Carl Que
10 Waterloo (0-7, 0-7) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind WO Ott Tor*
11 York (0-7, 0-8) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor* McM Wind Laur Que

Image In the OUA the top 3 teams fell into place nicely with their head-to-head games. The bottom 3 are the bottomest 3 of all time. Those middle 5 teams have results which make their rankings difficult. Head-to-head, Carleton is 2-1, Queen's 1-1, Windsor 2-2, Laurier 1-1, and Ottawa 1-2.

QUEBEC/ATLANTIC

1 Laval (6-0, 7-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher Bish McG Con Bish
2 Montreal (5-1, 5-1) beat Gue# Bish McG SFX Sher Con lost to Lav
3 Concordia (4-2, 5-2) beat Que# Bish McG Sher SMU* lost to Lav Mtl

9 McGill (0-6, 1-6) beat Tor# lost to Sher Con Mtl Lav Bish Sher
10 Saint Mary's (0-7, 0-8) lost to Aca# SFX Aca MtA Con MtA MtA SFX

Image Well, Concordia proved incapable of gathering momentum and suffered a big loss to Montreal. The Mounted are looking strong but it is hard to gauge their performance against 4 rather blah opponents.

STEP 3: THE BLEND

"CONTENDERS"
1 Laval (6-0, 7-0) beat Cal# Mtl Sher Bish McG Con Bish

21 Laurier (4-3, 4-3) beat Tor* Wat* Carl York* lost to Wind WO McM

"THE ***CLOWNS"
26 Waterloo (0-7, 0-7) lost to Carl McM Laur Wind WO Ott Tor*
27 York (0-7, 0-8) lost to Carl# Ott WO Tor* McM Wind Laur Que

Image After moving down last week, Manitoba shoots up by crushing Saskatchewan whilst Concordia shifts down after a crushing by Montreal. Regina has had some tough losses, but too many losses to stay in The Blob. And McGill has been crushed enough to be declared a Jabroni. However, it is clear that Waterloo and York are more than the typical Jabroni. They have thus entered The ***clown Zone. Who will be ordering a DVD of their epic confrontation this weekend?

OFFICIAL HOLLYWOOD TOP 27 - WEEK 8

The regular season ended on the weekend, with a wild finish in the CW. And a finish in the Q. And the first round of playoffs in the O and A. By the way, why would the AUS start their playoffs early? Just so their champ gets a bye week before the bowl games? For this important poll I turned to the world of hockey, and Anna Prugova, Russian goaltender.

Image The west was hard to rank. Manitoba, like Montreal, gets a boost for beating a contender. Regina/UBC/Alberta form a “blob within the blob”. They all managed to avoid being Ham'n'Eggers. Guelph led the OUA with NJWs (non-jabroni wins), vut still McUniversity gets the OUA nod. Weaker Q teams are hard to rank. Bishop's and McGill never played AUS teams. The disappointment for the year is a toss-up between traditional teams like McGill, SMU, and Toronto falling into jabroni status and any team being so bad they cannot even be classified as jabronis (Waterloo and York).

CANADA WEST

1 Manitoba (4-4, 6-4) beat Reg UBC Sask Cal Saskº Calº lost to Sask Cal Alta Reg

Image Not too often a team wins twice on the road to win a conference title. The playoff results really turn the CW rankings around significantly. Of note, Manitoba went 4-2 against Calgary and Sask.
