YORKTON TERRIERS 4 :. [Summary] : [Daily Recap]
The Derrieres needed a win in this one. A loss would have eliminated them. This was the most one-sided game in the tournament so far. Yorkton outshot Coquitlam 43-25. Coquitlam's top scorer Ryan Rosenthal missed the game due to injury. This tournament has really evolved into a toss-up.
The round-robin wraps up on Thursday. At 2:00 the Blues face Spruce Grove. Both sides are 1-2, so the loser of that game is out. Dauphin plays Coquitlam at 7:00. Both sides are 2-1 so the winner of that game gets 1st place.
Yorkton finishes the round-robin at 2-2 and will be part of a 3-way tie for 2nd place. They beat both Dauphin and Coquitlam, and lost to Winnipeg and Spruce Grove. I believe that all 3-way ties would be between teams who are 1-1 against one another. In that case, instead of applying a normal plus/minus they use a ratio:
ii. If two (2) or more teams are still tied after (b)(i), then in the games involving the tied teams, add each team’s goals for and goals against, divide this sum by the teams goals for. The team with the lowest quotient gains the higher position in the standings. If there are still teams tied, they go to the next step of the tie break procedures.
So if the Blues win, they would finish 2nd because:
- if Dauphin loses, the ratios would be:
Blues: 3-1, 3-4, ratio 1.83
Yorkton: 1-3, 8-6, ratio 2.0
Dauphin: 6-8, 4-3, ratio 2.1
- if Dauphin wins, the ratios would be:
Blues: 3-1, 1-2, ratio 1.75
Yorkton: 1-3, 4-1, ratio 1.8
Coquitlam: 2-1, 1-4, ratio 2.67
