We lost a true Canadian legend today.

I got to see him in concert back in the 70's and even got to meet him and I got his autograph. As friendly and down to earth a man you'll ever want to meet. And he put on a he11 of an entertaining show. No pretense or big spectacle; just him and his guitar and his band and his piece if plywood to stomp on. Plus his hilarious sense of humour. Top marks all around.

Next time I hear "The Hockey Song", I'll get misty-eyed for sure.

From one proud Canadian to another:

God Bless You, Tom, and Thank You. 8)

A very sad day, indeed. I saw him in concert twice in the last 10 years. When I took my wife to the second show, she kept trying to figure out what I would have to do for her since she was doing this for me. As it turned out she loved the show. Simple songs, a man and his music, and an all-ages crowd that was truly appreciative.

If a person only knew Stompin' Tom because of The Hockey Song...well, at least they knew him. But for quirky Canadiana, a slice of folklore about this country, and a taste of the small communities and people of Canada, give his music a more careful listen. I put Red River Jane on this morning in my vehicle. Every July 1 the first song I play is Canada Day Up Canada Way. My masters degree is from UPEI, so there's a bit of Bud the Spud in my heart as well. Canadiana can bind us all...even Bomber and Rider fans.
I wish my Gramps would have lived to see one more Bomber Grey Cup...and I'm 40 years old and I am not sure if I'll live to see one more Bomber Grey Cup.
