I liked Her, it was a charming movie, it was a little bit on the slow side and I thought there was going to be a big giant plot twist, but for the most part it was a safe movie with a lot of depth to the character work. I thought Phoenix portrayed his character well. I loved Scarlet even if you don't see her face. The overall tone of the movie was fairly uplifting with a strange but unique script. It was a good watch for sure. Phoenix deserved some consideration for best actor nominee.
Need for Speed
I thought Need for Speed was going to be a terrible movie, but in turn, it was fairly good for a racing movie. There's a decent amount of depth to the film and I thought Aaron Paul had it locked down. The plot was a little on the flimsy side unfortunately, but with the car races and the action scenes, I could bypass this. There's going to be another installment in a few years to compete with the Fast series. All in all, a great first shot.
I really enjoyed Steve Rogers and Captain America! I thought I might fall asleep because I had on those special 3D glasses, but all in all Captain America had a lot of turns and twists. I thought the acting was a little on the stiff side, I didn't feel that Chris Evans was really into this movie, that goes for Scarlet Johanssen...I was hoping for more of her attire! Oh well...None the less, I think this movie had a good amount of action and the story was fairly deep. I liked that this movie wasn't big on the CGI unless it really needed it. Again, It was a better rendition than I expected, there's a good mix here folks.
It's not often that a sequel can be better than the original, and I think in this case the sequel is much better than the first. I felt for starters that this movie was hilarious and very heavily improvised, which I loved. Will Ferrel owns this bad boy, and say what you want about him, but he commands the screen...he's just out there and its brilliant. Bringing back the original cast was a great touch as well, I dont think you could do this film without these guys. I thought Steve Carrell was a little annoying, his character was a little too much out there, he needed to tone it down a little, but that was really my own flaw in this near perfect movie. The script and story were funny, and I enjoyed all the cool elements. It was a great sequel, and I hope they make a second one!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was one of those movies that I wished I had seen in 2013, because it was one of my favorites of the year easily and hands down. I can't pinpoint what I like so much about it, I think the best and easily the most impressive is just how neat and cool of a movie it was. I know it's a bland thing to say but I really think this might've been Ben Stiller's best body of work in a very long time. I liked his character, I saw a lot of myself in himself...always keeping things in..reserved...not liking change...I see myself in him, and I think it was fairly relatable. This movie definitely worked, and I highly recommend it.
Yikes...I don't know what to do with this one. First off, I'm not religious, so I can't pretend I know what was in scripture or what wasn't, but if I'd just take the movie itself without having to dive into the whole scripture part. I didn't think NOAH was as bad as others said, but I didn't think it was a world beater by any means. The star of the show was Jennifer Connolly, she kept this movie relevant with her awesome and supportive acting, I just found the dialogue for the rest of the cast and even the tone of the movie just really sad and somber and I thought the movie was more negative than positive. Sadly, I don't really know what to do with this film, so I'll just say watch at your own risk.
I cant get into a full review of this movie because it was so terrible! Cave Men might seem like a loaded and incredible premise about a couple of guys and their conquests...but it's gotta be one of the worst movies of 2013 by a long shot. I thought the acting, the story, the dialogue and the scenes were all just a giant mess. You had Chad Michael Murray act like he's this big shot with these giant monologues...except the script sucked big ones...so you're just watching this plot go nowhere...oh yeah, stay away from this one at all expenses, there is nothing remotely salvageable here folks.
I really enjoyed Grudge Match, it was nice to see Stallone and De Niro go head to head. I could tell De Niro was into this film, he played his part really good, and even though it's getting a little hard to hear Stallone, he's still a sure thing. The plot was good, there were lots of funny moments and some good classic story telling. This film ended up being better than I thought.
I didn't know what I was going to expect with this bad boy, but it actually turned out to be a really good movie! The story was really cool, and the end was a pretty big shocker. I don't remember the young kid in the movie( he's actually almost 18 years old) but he stole the show, his character was solid and making him smart certainly made the movie more appealing and a little on the bad a** part of things. The casting of Harrison Ford worked very well; it gave the movie some good credentials. Great acting and good movie.
Funny movie, I enjoyed it. Ice Cube plays straight guy and the other guy plays the comic. The dialogue was quick and witty and lots of fun. At times, it felt like a straight to DVD movie with some of the action stuff, but again, funny funny funny and can't wait for Ride Along 2!
47 Ronin was a movie as I've mentioned many times as a mixed bag of tools and rusty nails. It's downright awful, but theres some elements of the movie that atleast for the most part balance itself out. I thought the story was a little contrived, I don't know if the story was based on a true story, but there were chunks of the action that just felt sloppy and uninspiring. Keannu Reeves i feel is a great actor, but he didn't want any part of this, his character was like a robot, he had no passion, he'd just say his lines and that was all; he knew this was a disaster. Instead of hiring hollywood actors, they hired actors from the orient...it didn't work, it was hard to understand what was being said way too often. Overall, some of the action and fight scenes were done good, but for a movie costing over 140 million; you can chalk this up to a disaster.
kick *** 2
I was really looking forward to this bad boy, as I enjoyed the first one. Unfortunately, Kick *** 2 wasn't as good as I hoped for. With the loss of Nicolas Cage from the first installment, I felt Jim Carrey could've been a good addition to this cast, but his character had no personality and well...things happen! The story is a little bad ***, I enjoyed it, but I just didn't feel like there was enough emotion like the first one had...I remember the first one was just gory as heck and it was a neat concept, but this one just felt like it was too recycled, and I just didn't end up enjoying it.
After watching the first five minutes...an awkward scene ensues...you put two and two together, and you know what's going on, but its the dialogue right away that lets you know just what you got yourself into! Dom Hemingway is a brilliant movie starring Jude Law...I loved this flick. The script is smart as heck and the acting of Jude Law is precise, funny, and you end up really feeling and rooting for this guy. The supporting cast for the most part don't offer much, but it's Jude or the highway. This is a funny but dark movie with some cool elements to it. I wish I had watched it in 2013 because this could've been a contendor for movie of the year. I really enjoyed this hidden gem.
That Awkward Moment
One of the best movies of 2014...so far anyway! Starring Zac Efron and the girl from Need for Speed Imogen Potts, this comedy is like a fresher version of American Pie from the early 20's. All in all, a very solid effort all together. Things get a little predictable for the most part, but that's okay as it's not really a thinker movie. Some of Zac Efron's best work that's for sure, and if you're going to watch one of these advice movies pick this one over Cave Men!
The Amazing Spiderman 2
I'll be honest, I kind of forget the first installment, I'm pretty sure I fell asleep a few times in the first one to remember a lot about it...none the less, here I am, giving this franchise another try...and for the most part it was a good watch! I thought the story was pretty good, I thought that some of the scenes involving Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy were pretty annoying..there was great chemistry between both, but I thought the movie was too long and there were scenes that should've been cut. The action and CGI was excellent, the 3D was sick, and the introduction to some of the villains was done fairly well, but thats all it was; an introduction, I didn't feel like I really knew these guys that Spider Man was going against...a little more character devolpment would've helped this film.
Anything Jason Statham touches is gold...so in this case, we got gold again! I love the story, it was really great, and very relatable as I have a daughter myself. I like the plot and how things slowly escalated till the end there, and I was glad to know that by watching the trailer, I was left with a different impression of the way the story plays out. I like James Franco in this, he plays a character thats a bad guy, but it's subtle and he's not in your face like I pictured. Again, this is a bad a** movie, and I fully approve...Jason Statham is the man hands down!
