Structure and Plot
If you live under a rock and haven't heard how successful and acclaimed this movie was, then I suggest to get out of that rock and see this movie. It won I believe 8 Oscar awards and completely blew everyone away. The premise of this movie is about a young boy who is on a Hindi version of Who wants to Be a Millionaire. It seems simple doesn't it? Well after breezing through the show, he continues to get all the answers correct. It is later perceived that he could be cheating, but what everyone doesn't know is that the answers to all the questions have occurred throughout his life. The plot makes sense, I found it a tad slow at times, but it picked up right away. The movie was, Question, flashback, answer. It was done in such an incredible way.
You wouldn't know many of the stars of this movie, in fact I'm sure you knew of none of them before the movie came out. It works out okay, there is great chemistry between the lead star Jamal(Dev Patel) and Latika(Freida Pinto.) And let me make this clear, if you are a guy, you will fall in love with Freida, she is beautiful and really gives her character all she can give. It was great to watch using a Cineplex Coupons
. You also are drawn in by Jamal. This was Dev's first full length movie, and I think he portrayed his character and achieved amazing success. The fellow cast did a wonderful job as well.
This was the only hard part of the movie that was a tad hard to follow. I had a hard time with the accents at times. It doesn't hinder anything, but sometimes I'd really have to pay attention. It wasn't a bad thing, maybe it brought me into this movie a lot closer than I would have. I found the dialogue to be very fast, very smart, and very engaging. I was drawn into conversations between Jamal and Latika, You could tell they had chemistry and even so, I would assume off the set, they were in a relationship...it was that real!
